EuroStemCell Data Collection: A Browser Plug-In for Cooperative Research
EuroStemCell Data Collection is a browser plug-in developed by algorithmacclab. This free plug-in allows users to participate in a cooperative research project between Algorithm Accountability Lab (GER) and EuroStemCell (UK). The main purpose of this plug-in is to collect data from Google web searches for the research project.
To begin, users are required to fill in a demographic survey, providing statistical data and allowing the project to assign them to a study with specific settings. These settings include a set of keywords and the URL of a search provider. Once the survey is completed, the plug-in automatically submits search queries to Google up to six times a day. The results of these searches are then sent to a University server in Kaiserslautern, Germany.
The collected data is analyzed by the research project and will be published, along with the results, when the project is completed. Participants in the study contribute to a scientific cause and the results will be made available to the public under an open-source license. It is important to note that participation in the study is voluntary and uncompensated.
